Kippi Leonard, Artist
My work explores structure, connection, and the quiet tension between abstraction and
form. I am drawn to architecture, constructed space, and the traces left by human
presence. These influences become points of departure rather than destinations,
translated into abstracted forms that hold memory, balance, and restraint.
I work across oil, cold wax, and mixed media on raw linen, canvas, birch panels, and
constructed surfaces. My process is deeply layered and intuitive, built through a
continuous series of choices adding, removing, obscuring, and revealing. Each decision
informs the next. I allow the work to evolve through excavation and revision, keeping it
open long enough to arrive at something honest. While the work is materially driven, it is
about building meaning through process, holding form in tension, and allowing
connection to develop over time.
My background in interior design informs how I think about proportion, materiality, and
spatial relationships. I am interested in how elements interact, how forms support or
resist one another, and how structure can hold both strength and vulnerability. My work
has been exhibited nationally and is held in private collections worldwide, including
notable collectors across the United States, Europe, Asia, India, and beyond.
